Bypass Filters

The future of bypass filters is now, and it is called IOW Group! The IOW Group oil bypass filters are the next chapter in the story of bypass filters.

Primary oil filters are designed to remove harmful debris particles from the lubrication system. When the primary oil full-flow filter is full of contaminants to the designed capacity, the primary oil filter is plugged, and dirty lubricant will bypass the oil filter. Any debris particles in the lube oil will flow directly into the engine. The dirty lube oil will flow through the system without cleaning (if the system is equipped with a bypass valve). Bypass is designed into filter bases so engines are not starved of lubrication oil. Lube oil starvation can cause catastrophic engine failures. The damage done by the limited flow of dirty lube oil can outweigh the catastrophic failure of lube oil starvation.

Prevention is better than cure — the answer is called bypass filtration!

Poor lubricating oil quality may cause increased wear on the crankshaft, camshaft, turbocharger, and other vital engine parts. Bypass oil filters operate by filtering lube oil on a “partial-flow” basis. The solution for primary full-flow filters lasting longer is to add a bypass centrifuge filter. The extra cleaning capacity of the centrifuge bypass filter ensures proper performance and a long lifetime of the lube oil.

Bypass oil filtration systems efficiently filter particles and provide clean oil.

The combination of full flow filter and bypass filters provides comprehensive wear protection against both large and small particles, as well as both short-term and long-term engine wear. Additionally, the full flow oil filter capacity is increased, and the life of the full flow filters is extended. Centrifuge filters provide superior bypass filtration that removes contaminants from the engine oil, reducing engine wear. The centrifuge bypass filter removes contaminants by means of centrifugal force (g-force). The centrifuge bypass filter is easily fitted on the engine side cover near the front-end box. The centrifuge bypass filter is designed with a paper insert, making it easy to clean.

Why use bypass filters from IOW Group?

IOW Group Bypass Filters

An IOW Group centrifuge oil bypass filter (secondary oil filter) offers higher capacities for eliminating and removing small particles from the lube oil that are missed with primary oil filters (full flow oil filters). The typical full flow filter will trap soot, dirt, and debris particles down to only about 40 microns (40 µm) in size. Solid particles account for the majority of all failures in the oil system. The IOW Group bypass filter uses centrifugal force (g-force) to separate the solids (soot, dirt, sludge, dust, solid contaminants) from the liquid (lube oil).

Improved Bypass Filter

The centrifugal force separates solids from the liquid based on their weights. Removing the microscopic particles from your engine’s lubrication system is the key to reducing engine wear and lowering your total cost of ownership (TCO). When tiny abrasive particles, such as sand, dirt, and dust, get into the oil system, they flow with the oil into critical machine components and are wedged in fine clearances. This leads to micro-cracks being initiated on the surface (ball bearings). The load and stress cycles will spread subsurface cracks, resulting in the degradation of the metal and the release of large spalls. Centrifuge bypass filters are considered the most efficient oil bypass filtration options.

Bypass Filtration is the answer to smarter lube bypass oil filtration!

The IOW Group bypass filters are simple to install and simple to maintain with no special skills required. Their robust design with few moving parts minimizes the risk of mechanical failure. In the same run time (given time frame), the IOW Group bypass oil filters remove more soot, dirty, and solid contamination than any other centrifuge bypass oil filters on the market; this includes Mann Hummel Centrifuges, Spinner II Oil Cleaning Centrifuges, Glacier Centrifugal Oil Filters, Microspin Centrifuges, and others. The IOW Group bypass filters are 150% more efficient than any of our competitors!

Why is the IOW Group bypass filter better than any other centrifuge bypass filter?

The simple answer is modern technology and design.  At the same engine oil pressures, the IOW Group bypass filters will spin faster than any centrifuge bypass filter competitors.

Bowl Discs: The IOW Group bypass filters are the only centrifuge bypass oil filters to use bowl disc technology. Bowl discs increase separation efficiency by removing even more contaminants. The bowl disc increases the surface area inside the centrifuge bowl.

Fully Sealed Centrifuge Bowl: Unlike other competitors, the IOW Group centrifuge bowl is fully sealed. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination between the cleaned and dirty lube oil.

Remote Monitoring: The IOW Group bypass centrifuges are the only centrifuge bypass oil filter that provides the operators and systems with valuable insight into the centrifuge bowl speed and service requirements. IOW Group provides two (2) different remote monitors. This provides unique control and insight into the IOW filtration system.

Distributor Impeller: On the IOW Group bypass oil filter, the oil enters the centrifuge at the base of the unit and, once spinning, is drawn into the centrifuge by the distributor impeller, reducing the risk of back pressure causing cross-contamination and increasing the centrifuge rotor (centrifuge bowl) speeds.

Increased Centrifugal Force: Higher centrifuge RPMs equal higher separation efficiency of smaller contaminants. The higher the centrifuge bowl spins, the greater the centrifugal force (g-force).  Greater centrifugal force provides improved small particle removal of wear-causing contaminants.
