Oil Centrifuge Filter
Oil is a vital component in many industries, but it’s prone to impurities and unwanted contaminants. These impurities and contaminants can affect the performance and lifespan of machinery. When oil contaminated is contaminated, problems will eventually pile up. Contamination changes the oil properties, which will deteriorate and cause equipment problems and production losses. An oil centrifuge is a piece of equipment that can help you remove these impurities and improve the quality of your oil. Oil centrifuges can are highly efficient at cleaning engine lubricants, gear oils, machining fluids, hydraulic oils, and other industrial fluids.
What is an Oil Centrifuge?
An oil centrifuge is a mechanical device that uses centrifugal force to separate impurities and contaminants from the oil. The engine oil pressure spins the centrifuge bowl at high RPMs. The resulting gravitational force (g-force) draws any particles and contaminants outwards against the centrifuge bowl wall while the purified oil passes back to your oil tank. The oil centrifuge forces the heavier solids to the outside of the centrifuge bowl producing a firm sludge cake. The impurities and contaminants collected in the sludge cake can be easily removed.
Oil centrifuge cleans lube oil and hydraulic oil efficiently!
An oil centrifuge functions as a clarifying centrifugal separator (solid-liquid separation). A clarifier (clarification separation) uses centrifugal force to separate solid particles from a liquid phase. A proper clarifier is equipped with a stack of conical discs for creating a large equivalent clarification area in a relatively small centrifuge bowl. Oil centrifuges with bowl disc technology have an increased separation efficiency. Therefore, these disc oil centrifuges can remove significantly more small particles faster than any oil centrifuge without bowl disc technology.
Oil centrifuges multiply the constant force of gravity thousands of times. Oil centrifuges replace the gravitational force with centrifugal force, increasing the rate at which the natural process occurs.
Working Principle of Oil Centrifuge
The dirty oil passes into the centrifuge at the oil inlet, is fed through the centrifuge spindle, and then flows into the distributor impeller at the bottom of the centrifuge bowl, which rotates at high speed generating powerful centrifugal forces. The oil then passes through the centrifuge bowl disc, and the heavier particles in the oil are forced towards the periphery of the centrifuge bowl, where they sediment onto the centrifuge bowl wall. The cleaned oil is forced upwards in the centrifuge bowl and is then ejected through the four (4) nozzles out into the centrifuge body. The discharged cleaned oil gravity drains back into the engine sump or tank.
Bowl disc increase in the oil filtering separation efficiency!
The speed and efficiency with which the sediment and oil are separated are enhanced by the action of the bowl disc. Unlike conventional oil centrifuge filters, IOW Group oil centrifuges use bowl discs to increase the oil filtering separation efficiency, dramatically reducing the time that contaminants (soot, wear metals, engine sludge, foreign debris, and other abrasive contaminants) can stay in the oil. IOW Group oil centrifuges are unique in having bowl discs for these types of centrifuges – this feature is not available from any other manufacturer.
Oil cleaning centrifuges remove contamination and soot particles.
The oil centrifuge is powered by the oil pressure (engine oil pressure or auxiliary pump).
The IOW Group oil centrifuge filters are an excellent and compatible option for replacing Mann Hummel Centrifugal Oil Cleaners, Glacier Centrifuges, Microspin Centrifuges, and Spinner II Oil Cleaning Centrifuges.
Benefits of Using an Oil Centrifuge Filter
Clean oil is key to an effective process. There are many benefits to using an oil centrifuge. Here are just a few of the most significant benefits:
– Improved oil quality: Removing impurities and contaminant particles from the oil can improve its quality and extend oil change intervals. An improvement in oil quality (supported by oil analysis) reduces engine wear.
– Reduced maintenance costs: Cleaner oil means less wear and tear on machinery, leading to lower maintenance costs.
– Extended lifespan of machinery: Impurities can cause equipment to wear out more quickly. By removing these impurities, the oil centrifuge can help increase the equipment’s life and reduce downtime.
– Increased efficiency: Clean oil can improve the efficiency of machinery and reduce energy consumption.
– Reduced waste disposal costs
How do you size an oil centrifuge?
When sizing an oil centrifuge filter, these are general recommendations:
1. The oil centrifuge must process a maximum of 10% of the oil pump amount.
2. The oil centrifuge(s) must process (4) four times per hour all oil amount of the engine.
3. The outlet side of the oil centrifuge filter must work only for gravity, and the return drain line of the clean oil must be (3) three times the inlet diameter. Example: INLET ¾”, OUTLET must be 9/4 or 3 inches (for security).
How does an oil centrifuge work?
IOW Group’s Oil Centrifuge Filter
IOW Group provides all oil centrifuge filters with bowl discs and remote monitoring technology. All IOW oil centrifuge filters deliver superior separation and oil analysis results that beat any oil centrifuge currently available. The IOW oil centrifuge filter allows you to maximize performance, extend maintenance intervals, and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for engine systems and auxiliaries.
IOW Group’s Competitive Advantage
-
- Bowl Disc – All IOW oil centrifuge filters have bowl discs, significantly improving separation efficiency. Bowl discs increase the separation/filtration surface area. The increased surface area dramatically speeds up the precipitation of solids from the liquid (waste motor oil, hydraulic oil, lube oil, transmission fluid, black diesel, or gear oil). IOW oil centrifuge filters are unique in having bowl disc technology for these types of centrifuges – this feature is not available from any other manufacturer.
- Remote Monitoring – Unlike any other oil centrifuge filter on the market, IOW oil centrifuges have a choice of CentriClean remote monitoring via Separator Control Units (SCUs), which can warn you or your system that they need servicing or cleaning.
- Eliminate Cross Contamination – Oil cleaning centrifuges are an essential tool for anyone who uses oil in their operations. It can help you save money, improve efficiency, and protect the environment. By understanding how an oil centrifuge works and how to maintain it, you can ensure that your oil remains clean and free of contaminants.
- Faster Centrifuge Bowl Speeds – Faster oil centrifuge bowl speed increases the centrifugal force, creating better and quicker separation. Higher speeds equal greater centrifugal forces (gravitational force).
IOW Group’s Oil Centrifuge Filter Sizes
For their size and capacity, the IOW Group centrifuges are the highest-performing oil centrifuge filters on the market. The IOW centrifuge filters are incredibly efficient at removing small and large particles from hydraulic oil, waste motor oil, lube oil, transmission fluid, black diesel, gear oil, and waste oils. The sizing of the IOW oil centrifuge filter is generally determined by the engine lube oil sump size (or hydraulic oil, waste oil tank size), the fluid’s viscosity, operating pressures, and the required flow rate. These are general guidelines based on engine sump size. To learn more, visit IOWGroup.com.
