The Recovered Energy BOSS oily water separator is designed and certified to remove oils, grease, and other hydrocarbons from water in accordance with IMO standards as defined in MEPC 107 (49). Additional features are available to address specific situations or improve system performance to exceed MEPC standards. Water quality is monitored with a certified oil content monitor (OCM).
The system you have may or may not include some of the following components, depending on how it was originally ordered or modified since installation. If operated properly, the BOSS bilge water separator system will meet and exceed all the requirements of MEPC 107 (49).
How do marine oily water separators achieve clean discharge?
Your marine oily water separators (OWS) will pump contaminated bilge water through strainers and coalescing media to filter water and gather oil. Free oil rises naturally and accumulates in a dedicated collection area. The marine bilge oily water separator system then enables pressurized fresh water to push the oil to an external tank. The system will continue to filter the bilge water. The system then passes the treated water through fine filtration and continuously monitors oil content using a 15 ppm oil content monitor (OCM), ensuring that discharge consistently meets regulatory limits and classification society requirements. This process provides operators with reliable, compliant discharge water while minimizing environmental impact and operational risk.
