Protect Your Perkins Engines with Advanced Centrifugal Bypass Filtration
In 1998, Caterpillar Inc. acquired the assets of Perkins Limited, LucasVarity’s diesel engine subsidiary. With the acquisition of Perkins Engines, Caterpillar became the world leader in the manufacture of off-highway diesel engines. Perkins Engines Company is part of the Caterpillar Group and has facilities and offices in Brazil, China, India, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Perkins Engines Filtration
Every moving part inside the Perkins engines comes into contact with the engine lube oil and depends on it for proper lubrication. Contaminated lube oil quickly leads to excessive wear, loss of performance, and ultimately premature engine failure. Spin-on filters are designed with both an anti-drain back valve and a bypass valve. The bypass valve ensures that lube oil can bypass the filter at extreme pressures, such as engine start-up, and lube oil is filtered at normal operating pressures. Weak bypass valves can open at normal operating pressures, allowing particles to circulate and causing further engine damage.
One function of lubrication oil is to provide a barrier between moving and rotating surfaces. As the clearance between these components increases due to wear, a higher flow of lube oil is required to maintain the gap and prevent them from touching and causing premature failure. Contaminated lube oil is one of the leading causes of premature engine failure.
Enhance your Perkins Engines filtration system with the IOW Group Bypass Centrifuge Filter!
Are centrifugal bypass filters worth it?
Yes! Centrifugal bypass filters are your engine’s soot solution. Centrifugal bypass filters prevent issues before they arise and provide maximum engine protection. They remove the solid contaminants missed by the full-flow oil filter, which plays a vital role in ensuring that the lubricants circulate around the engine. Even minute pieces of debris (engine soot) can cause significant damage to your engine.
To prevent significant engine damage, the lube oil needs to be as clean as possible. Centrifugal bypass filters provide a higher efficiency at a smaller filtration particle size. A centrifugal bypass filter can be added in a kidney loop configuration with the full-flow filter or installed completely separate from the lubrication system as an offline system with its own circulating pump.
Soot Contamination Reduction!
Many situations may introduce more than the normal levels of solid contaminants. These include long idle times, harsh conditions, or the need to increase the time between lube oil change intervals. A standard oil filter element may not be able to filter the contaminants out over longer times or have the capacity to hold solid contaminants during for extended periods. A centrifugal bypass filter is added to the lubrication system to supply the additional filtration and capacity for these conditions. With the IOW Group centrifugal bypass filters, engine oil remains cleaner and well within operating limits for a longer period of time.
The IOW Group centrifugal bypass filter offers numerous benefits for engine maintenance and longevity. It provides a higher level of particle filtration efficiency and a greater contaminant capacity, ensuring cleaner engine oil. This results in longer oil drain intervals and reduced engine oil consumption. Ultimately, these advantages contribute to extending the overall life of the engine. Cleaner lube oil requires less maintenance, engines last longer, and maintenance costs are lower.
Centrifugal Bypass Filters — Cleaner Oil, Better Performance!
IOW Group Centrifugal Bypass Filters
The IOW Group centrifugal bypass filters are the only pressure-powered centrifuges that utilize bowl disc technology, remote monitoring, or a distributor impeller. No matter the size of the IOW oil centrifuge you need, it will use the same market-leading technology.
Bowl Disc Technology — Increases the separation efficiency by removing even more soot contamination. To increase the separation efficiency, conical plates are stacked one on top of the other inside the centrifuge bowl to increase the separation efficiency. This stack is referred to as a bowl disc stack. The IOW Group disc centrifuge filter is the only product of this size that utilizes this technology.
Fully Sealed Centrifuge Bowl — Unlike other centrifugal bypass filters, the IOW Group oil centrifuges are fully sealed to reduce cross-contamination risk between the cleaned and dirty oil.
Remote Monitoring —The IOW Group oil centrifuges come standard with remote monitoring. The remote monitoring unit provides operators valuable insight into the centrifuge speed (RPMs) and run hours.
Distributor Impeller — Oil enters the centrifuge at the base of the unit and, once spinning, is drawn into the centrifuge by the distributor impeller, reducing the risk of back pressure causing cross-contamination. Additionally, the distributor impeller increases the centrifuge rotor speed.
Superior Technology = Enhanced Separation Efficiency
With this centrifuge technology, IOW Group oil centrifuges achieve higher speeds (RPMs), resulting in greater centrifugal force and improved separation efficiency.
Perkins 1206D-E70TTA
The Perkins 1206D diesel engines have a gross mechanical output of 186-248.5 kWm and an EU Stage IIIA emission. These Perkins diesel engines have six (6) vertical inline cylinders with a 105 mm bore. The lube oil system is designed with a flat-bottomed, isolated aluminum sump.
On this Perkins 1206D-E70TTA diesel engine, the IOW MP200 centrifugal bypass filter was installed with gravity draining back into the engine’s lube oil sump. The suction was taken from one of the 3/4″ BSP plugs at the lube oil pump discharge pipe.
The customer is utilizing the IOW CentriClean SCU 0002 remote monitor. The CentriClean SCU 0002 is designed to monitor centrifuge performance. It will continuously display the current centrifuge RPMs during operation and monitor the centrifuge run hours. The CentriClean remote monitor requires 12-24 volts DC to operate. The IOW Group bypass centrifuge filters are the only centrifuges of their size that utilize remote monitoring.
Keep Your Perkins Engines Clean with Centrifugal Bypass Filters!
Upgrade with an IOW Group bypass centrifugal oil filter when rebuilding your Perkins diesel engines or purchasing remanufactured Perkins engines. Centrifugal bypass filters are essential for engine maintenance. They remove solid contaminants that the full-flow oil filter might miss, ensuring cleaner oil circulation and preventing engine damage. The centrifugal bypass filters have higher efficiency and can be added to the existing filtration system or used separately with their own pump. Overall, oil centrifuge filters provide maximum protection for engines.
