Hyundai HiMSEN Centrifugal Filter
Hyundai HiMSEN engines are versatile, serving a wide array of applications. They are utilized for ship propulsion (both main engines and as part of propulsion packages), auxiliary power generation on vessels, and in land-based power plants, including critical roles such as emergency diesel generators (EDG) for nuclear power facilities. A significant characteristic of the HiMSEN line is its fuel flexibility. The Hyundai HiMSEN engines are designed to operate on a range of fuels, including Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) with viscosity up to 700 cSt at 50 °C (Uni-Fuel concept, allowing them to use the same fuel as main engines), Marine Diesel Oil (MDO), Marine Gas Oil (MGO), and Dual Fuel (DF) options utilizing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
This capability to operate on HFO is particularly pertinent to the demands of the lubrication system. Compared to distillate fuels, HFO typically contains a higher concentration of impurities such as sulfur, asphaltenes, and catalytic fines. Combustion of HFO also tends to produce greater quantities of soot and other byproducts that inevitably find their way into the lubricating oil. Consequently, the engine’s lubrication and filtration system must be inherently robust to effectively manage this increased contaminant load.
Lubrication System
The lubrication system consists of a lubrication oil module with thermostatic valves, a duplex oil filter, a centrifugal filter, and a lubrication oil cooler. The main lubrication pump, which has a regulating valve and a pre-lubrication pump, is also part of the system. The lubrication oil that flows through the engine is based on optimized bearing clearances, ensuring large safety margins.
The lubricating oil filter is of the duplex paper cartridge type with a fineness of 15 microns (15μ). Each oil filter has a safety stainless steel cartridge with a fineness of 60 microns (60μ). The pressure transmitters fitted before and after the oil filter indicate the high pressure drop. When the difference value of the pressure is higher than the setting value, the alarm system is activated. Per the instruction book, the oil filter selection valve uses lubricating oil filters selectively.

Case Studies: IOW Group vs. other Hyundai HiMSEN Centrifugal Filters
Hyundai Himsen 5H21/32 Engine
A maritime customer operating a Hyundai Himsen 5H21/32 auxiliary engine running on MGO, with an oil capacity of 800 litres, lube oil pressure of 4.2 bar, and using Chevron Taro 30 DP 40X lube oil, replaced their Mann Hummel FM400 centrifuge filter with the IOW MP600 centrifugal filter due to excessive soot levels found during lube oil analysis.
Unlike the Mann Hummel FM400 centrifugal filter, which struggles with fine particulate removal at higher soot loads, the IOW Group MP600 centrifugal filter is engineered for maximum separation efficiency, keeping oil cleaner longer and protecting engine components from abrasive wear. The IOW Group centrifuges utilize bowl disc technology. Bowl disc technology offers several key advantages, primarily related to improved separation efficiency, higher product quality, and reduced energy consumption. IOW Group centrifuges use a disc stack to increase the surface area for solids settling, enabling effective separation even with smaller particles.
At the same engine oil pressure, IOW centrifugal filters generate greater centrifugal force by spinning at higher speeds. The IOW Group bypass centrifuge filter is a smarter, future-proof investment for operators focused on minimizing downtime, reducing oil change frequency, and cutting overall lifecycle costs. Trust IOW Group for your Hyundai HiMSEN centrifugal filter upgrade.
Increased Surface Area + Higher Centrifugal Force = Superior Separation Efficiency
Hyundai Himsen 6H21/32 Engine
A marine vessel powered by a Hyundai Himsen 6H21/32 engine recently upgraded its lube oil filtration system by replacing the Mann+Hummel FM200 with the IOW Group MP200 centrifugal filter, paired with the CentriClean SCU-0002 remote monitor. This decision was driven by the need for a more effective solution to manage high soot levels and maintain oil cleanliness, especially when operating on heavy fuel oil (HFO) and marine diesel oil (MDO).
The Hyundai Himsen 6H21/32 is a robust medium-speed engine commonly used in auxiliary applications, where consistent performance and minimal maintenance are crucial. Operating at a lube oil pressure of 5.0 bar (72.5 PSI), the engine demands a filtration system capable of handling harsh fuel types and extended running hours without sacrificing reliability. The IOW MP200 centrifugal filter meets this challenge by delivering higher centrifugal force at the same oil pressure, ensuring more efficient contaminant separation and prolonged oil life.
The addition of the CentriClean SCU-0002 remote monitor further enhances the oil filtration system by providing real-time centrifuge RPMs. With this upgrade, the vessel benefits from reduced engine wear, lower oil consumption, and extended service intervals. All of these factors contribute to increased uptime and reduced operational costs. IOW Group is your source for the Hyundai HiMSEN centrifugal filter, which is engineered to outperform.

Hyundai Himsen 9H21/32 Engine
This power generation plant utilized Hyundai HiMSEN 9H21/32 engines running on heavy fuel oil (HFO). The engine output is 1,800 kilowatts at 900 rpm engine speed. The power generation plant was interested in upgrading its lube oil filtration system. To improve oil cleanliness levels and extend lube oil life, they ran a test comparing the IOW Group MP600 centrifuge vs. the Mann Hummel FM600-23 centrifuge.
The Mann Hummel FM600-23 (P/N: 6899118901) centrifugal filter usually removes 600 grams (1.32 lbs) in 200 working hours at this facility. The IOW MP600 centrifuge was installed on the same mounting arrangement as the previous Mann Hummel FM600 centrifugal filter.
Results: The IOW MP600 operated around 4,300 centrifuge RPMs using 4.4 bar pressure from the engine oil pump. After 200 hours on dirty oil, the IOW MP600 had removed 1,730 grams (3.81 lbs) of contaminants (an average of 8.7 grams per hour). It was then cleaned, and the oil was replaced to accurately evaluate how the higher removal rate affects the oil service interval.
Conclusion: With new oil, the goal was to test whether the 700-hour oil change interval, previously limited by insoluble buildup using the Mann Hummel centrifuge filter, could be extended. With the IOW MP600 centrifuge filter installed, the oil now runs up to 1,500 hours before insoluble levels hit the 1% limit. The TBN levels also stayed within an acceptable range, dropping only 10% from new oil values. The customer more than doubled oil change intervals by upgrading from the Mann+Hummel FM600 to the IOW Group MP600 centrifuge, cutting downtime and labor costs. With 7,000 operating hours annually, this simple switch saves $17,354 annually per engine.
Following excellent feedback, the customer installed IOW Group MP600 centrifuge filters on all Hyundai Himen 9H21/32 engines to maximize savings across the entire power plant. Get your Hyundai HiMSEN centrifugal filter from IOW Group.
