Alfa Laval MAB 103 Centrifuge
The Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator is a solids-retaining centrifugal separator that can function as a clarifier and a purifier. The Alfa Laval MAB 103 centrifugal separators are excellent for the purification and clarification of mineral oils, low viscosity fuel oils (GO/MDO, MDO), engine oils, factory oils, and cleaning lubricating oils. Synthetic oils in industrial applications.
The Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator’s rated capacity is 1,300 liters/hour (343 gallons/hour). For diesel oil (viscosity 13 cSt/40°C), a max capacity of 900 liters/hour (238 gallons/hour).
The Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator is perfect for clarifying and purifying diesel oil.
The solids retaining separator comprises a frame containing in its lower part a horizontal drive shaft with friction clutch and brake, worm gear, and a vertical bowl spindle. The worm gear is placed in an oil bath. The bowl is fixed on the top of the spindle inside the space, forming by the upper part of the frame and the frame hood, carrying the feed and discharge systems. The frame hood is hinged to facilitate easy access for cleaning the bowl, which is of the solid wall disc type. The Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator is equipped with a built-in feed and discharge pump.
The separation takes place in a solids-retaining bowl that can be arranged for either purification or clarification. In both applications, the contaminated oil is fed into the separator through the center and separated by centrifugal force into various phases. The oil is continuously cleaned as it flows toward the center of the bowl. The heaviest phase (the sludge, solid particles, and separated water) is forced outwards to the periphery of the centrifuge bowl.
Alfa Laval MAB 103 Purifier Bowl
The Alfa Laval MAB 103 purifier uses a top disc with a neck and a gravity disc for purification applications. The gravity disc size determines the water seal inside the bowl. The gravity disc is selected according to the Alfa Laval manual.
The heavy phase and any solids move along the underside of the bowl discs towards the periphery of the bowl, where the solids settle on the centrifuge bowl wall. The heavy phase flows along the upper side of the top disc towards the neck of the centrifuge bowl hood and leaves the centrifuge bowl via the gravity disc the outer way.
The light phase flows towards the center of the centrifuge bowl and leaves the bowl through the hole in the top disc neck the inner way. To remove the solids from the Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator, the centrifuge is periodically stopped. The bowl is opened so that the collected solids can be removed manually by hand.
Alfa Laval MAB 103 Clarifier Bowl
The Alfa Laval MAB 103 clarifier uses a discharge collar and a top disc without a neck for clarification applications. The Alfa Laval MAB 103 clarifier bowl has one liquid outlet.
The liquid moves toward the center of the centrifuge bowl and discharges through the bowl hood.
The solids and particulates are forced towards the periphery of the bowl, where the solids settle on the centrifuge bowl wall. To remove the solids from the Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator, the centrifuge is periodically stopped. The bowl is opened so that the collected solids can be removed manually by hand.

Maintenance Intervals for the Alfa Laval MAB 103 Centrifuge:
Preventive maintenance reduces the risk of unexpected stoppages and breakdowns. It is recommended that you establish a routine of periodically inspecting equipment, noticing small issues, and fixing them before they turn into major problems. Reference your provided Alfa Laval MAB 103B-24 separator manual for safety, operating, and service instructions.
– Oil Change – The lube oil change interval is every 1,500 hours or at least once every year (minimum).
– Intermediate Service – Intermediate Service consists of an overhaul of the Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator bowl, inlet, and outlet every three (3) months or 2,000 operating hours. The seals in the bowl and gaskets in the inlet/outlet device are replaced.
– Major Service – Major Service consists of an overhaul of the complete Alfa Laval MAB 103 separator every twelve (12) months or 8,000 operating hours. Seals and bearings in the bottom part are replaced.
