What is a pressure driven centrifuge?
A pressure driven lube oil centrifuge separates contaminated particles from engine oil to reduce engine wear. A pressure driven centrifuge uses centrifugal force to extract contaminants from the oil stream.
During normal engine operations, the lubricating oil will gradually be contaminated by small particles originating from the combustion. We recommend installing a built-on centrifugal bypass filter as an additional filter to the built-on full-flow depth filter. The wear rates are reduced, and the lifetime of the engine is extended.
A bypass centrifugal filter is operated continuously when the engine is in operation or at standstill. Bypass centrifuges are highly efficient for cleaning engine oil and industrial fluids.
Why is a centrifugal oil separator important in today's diesel engines?
As engine designs continue to evolve to meet emission requirements, the contaminant loading placed on the engines lubricating oil will continue to increase. Nearly all full flow oil filters are designed to clean the lubricating oil which lubricates the moving parts of engines. They are designed for a certain flow rate and pressure drop. However, to get the necessary flow rates and pressure drops required there is a trade-off in performance. Smaller micron particles pass through the filter media continually. These particles build up in the lubricating oil, causing unnecessary wear and damage to the engine, which in turn leads to lower engine performance and increased engine emissions. They also shorten the life of the lubricating oil as the level of contaminants increases.
With today’s emission controls getting tighter and tighter, it is increasingly important to remove these contaminants before they cause any damage to both the engine and the lubricating oil. Poor lube oil quality causes wear on the crankshaft, camshaft, turbocharger, and other essential parts. The centrifuge bypasses only 10% of the dirty oil but by doing so it significantly improves the quality of the lubricant increasing the life and efficiency of the full flow filter.
With fewer particles moving around the engine, wear and tear of components is greatly reduced and has the bonus of reducing man hours due to unnecessary servicing.
